AI MIDI Generator: type the idea, get the notes

MIDI Lab turns a text prompt into editable multitrack MIDI with drums, bass, chords and melody, written as real notes instead of a finished audio file. Every note stays yours to move, cut, revoice or send to your gear. It is made by musicians for musicians, for producers and synth people who would rather shape a pattern than settle for a bounce.

How it works

  1. 1

    Describe it

Type what you hear in your head: genre, mood, key, tempo and feel. Something like "dark techno bassline in A minor, 128 BPM" or "lazy lo fi jazz chords with swing".

  2. 2

    Get two takes

Each generation gives you two multitrack variations, with drums, bass, chords and melody on their own tracks. Audition both right in the browser.

  3. 3

    Edit, export, play

Fine tune notes in the piano roll editor, download a standard .mid file for your DAW, or send it live to your hardware synths over Web MIDI.

What you can make

Every part comes out as MIDI, so you pick the sound.

Melodies and leads

Hooks, arps and top lines that sit in the key and tempo you asked for.

Chord progressions

Pads, stabs and keys parts you can revoice, reorder or stretch out.

Basslines

Grooves that lock to the drums, ready for a mono synth or an 808.

Drum patterns

Kicks, snares, hats and fills on their own track, easy to map to any kit or drum machine.

Works with your DAW and your hardware

Any DAW

Downloads are standard Type 1 MIDI files with each part on its own track. They open in Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Pro Tools, GarageBand and every other DAW that reads MIDI.

Hardware synths and modular

Plug a synth, drum machine or Eurorack interface in over USB MIDI. In Chrome or Edge, the Infinite Engine plays up to 16 layers live, each on its own MIDI channel, straight from your browser.

Coming soon

Plugin style synth windows

We are turning the built in synth into a proper instrument. Each layer in the Infinite Engine gets its own floating synth window, like plugins on DAW channels, with a preset browser and hands on knobs. It runs inside MIDI Lab in your browser. It is not a VST or AU plugin for your DAW.

Free to try

Every new account starts with 50 credits and no card is needed. A generation costs 10 credits, so that is 5 generations with two variations each.

AI MIDI generator FAQ

What is an AI MIDI generator?

An AI MIDI generator writes MIDI notes from a description instead of rendering audio. With MIDI Lab you type a prompt and get editable multitrack MIDI, so you can change any note, swap the sound, or play it on your own instruments.

Can I use the generated MIDI in my DAW?

Yes. Download any result as a standard .mid file and drop it into Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Pro Tools or any other DAW. Drums, bass, chords and melody each land on their own track.

Does it work with hardware synths?

Yes. In a browser with Web MIDI, such as Chrome or Edge, MIDI Lab sends MIDI straight to synths, drum machines and Eurorack interfaces connected over USB. The Infinite Engine routes each layer to its own MIDI channel. Web MIDI is not available in Firefox or Safari.

Is there an AI MIDI generator plugin or VST?

Not as a DAW plugin. MIDI Lab runs in your browser and works alongside any DAW: export a standard .mid file, or stream MIDI live to your gear over Web MIDI. Coming soon, each layer in the Infinite Engine gets its own plugin style synth window inside MIDI Lab.

Is the AI MIDI generator free?

You can try it free. Every new account gets 50 credits with no card required, which covers 5 generations of two variations each. Paid plans refill your credits every month and you can cancel any time.

Does MIDI Lab replace the musician?

No. It writes ideas as notes and you decide what stays. MIDI Lab is made by musicians for musicians: a sketchpad and session player for your DAW and your gear, not a button that spits out finished songs.
