Streaming MIDI to Synths: Infinite MIDI Engine Explained
Infinite MIDI to Your Synths
The Infinite Engine in MIDI Lab AI streams MIDI in real time to any device connected via Web MIDI. No bouncing to a DAW—the AI plays your synths live as you jam. You enter a prompt, hit play, and MIDI flows to your hardware. Tweak the prompt, adjust tempo or complexity, and the AI adapts. It's the fastest way to get AI-generated ideas into your hardware setup.
How It Works
- Connect your hardware via USB or a MIDI interface. Class-compliant devices work without drivers.
- Enable Web MIDI in Chrome or Edge. Grant access when the browser prompts.
- Open the Infinite Engine and select your output device. You can route to up to 16 destinations.
- Enter a prompt—e.g., "evolving ambient pad in D minor"—and hit play. MIDI flows to your synths.
- Tweak as you go: change the prompt, adjust parameters, or record the output into your DAW.
Why Stream Instead of Export?
Exporting MIDI and loading it into a DAW works, but streaming removes the middleman. You're jamming in real time. The Infinite Engine can evolve patterns—they don't just loop. Start with a simple chord progression and let the AI develop variations. Perfect for sound design, live sketching, or finding inspiration without opening a DAW.
Compatible Devices
Any device that appears as a MIDI port in your OS will work: hardware synths (Moog, Sequential, Roland, etc.), Eurorack MIDI interfaces, drum machines, and software instruments that accept MIDI input. See Web MIDI setup for troubleshooting. Try the Infinite Engine now.
